The above is the 1st article of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights which was adopted by the UN General Assembly on the 10th December, 1948. The Universal Declaration has received praise from a number of notable people. Charles Malik, Lebanese philosopher and diplomat, called it "an international document of the first order of importance," while Eleanor Roosevelt, first chairwoman of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) that drafted the Declaration, stated that it "may well become the international Magna Carta of all men everywhere." 10 December 1948. In a speech on 5 October 1995, Pope John Paul II called the UDHR "one of the highest expressions of the human conscience of our time". And in a statement on 10 December 2003 on behalf of the European Union, Marcello Spatafora said that "it placed human rights at the centre of the framework of principles and obligations shaping relations within the international community
About The Project
The Children's book on Human Rights will present the 30 Articles in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights through a story 'lived' by a main cartoon character. Colourful illustrations and simplified text should make it more interesting and eye-catching for 7 - 9 year olds - which is the target audience of this book.
It is envisaged that 1500 books will be printed and disseminated in schools in Malta and in schools in the participants' town/region. MUYA is considering disseminating the book in other non-participant countries depending on the funds available.

MUYA is a youth association represented in Malta in cooperation with National Co-ordination Body (National Commission of UNESCO in Malta).
MUYA Works in the field of developing culture, education, science and communication and spreading the ideas of UNESCO amongst youth and grown up population in Malta and internationally through organisation of programs and projects including training courses, seminars & exchanges on an national and international level and through the publishing of diverse literature.

- creation of thematic libraries, student and youth organisations in line with the priorities outlined in this statute;
- development of scientific, cultural and didactic values through the organisation of conferences, exhibitions, seminars and other events;
- formation and development of the standards of culture and behaviour;
- to promote accessibility of the youth population to education and active participation in society.
